Classic Omega Seamaster wristwatch manufactured in 1957 and powered by the reliable Omega calibre 420 manual winding movement. This was the era when Omega marketed the Seamaster as "the watch for the active man" – a robust everyday watch combining durability with understated elegance.
The stainless steel case remains in very good condition with no dings and only light signs of careful use. The distinctive broad "beefy" lugs give the watch a strong wrist presence and are one of the defining features of 1950s Seamaster design. The case back is engraved Seamaster and Waterproof on the outer chamfer, a characteristic detail seen on period examples. Inside, the case is fully signed Omega.
The black dial is particularly attractive and captures the style that made the 1950s Seamaster such a success. Gold coloured crosshairs divide the dial into four quadrants and are complemented by applied gold hour markers, gold Omega logo, gold Omega and Seamaster script, and matching gold Dauphine hands with centre sweep seconds hand. The combination of black and gold creates a striking contrast and gives the watch a distinctly mid-century appearance.
The movement has recently been serviced and is running well. The calibre 420 is one of Omega's respected manual winding movements of the period, noted for its robust construction and ease of maintenance.
Fitted with a later brown leather strap.
A handsome and highly wearable 1950s Seamaster combining strong case design, a classic black dial and one of Omega's dependable manual wind movements. Watches of this style helped establish the Seamaster as one of Omega's most enduring collections and remain as appealing today as they were nearly seventy years ago.
