This is a really interesting piece that encapsulates the very best of the early years of the Brandt Brothers watchmaking before Labrador and its sister companies were rationalised into the newly formed Omega.
The Brandt brothers manufactured movements and watches under a number of different brand names before they finally contracted down to Omega. In the very late 19th / very early 20th century, when this piece was made, the Labrador brand specialised in superior, more expensive movements and watches compared to its sister Brandt companies.
This hunter pocket watch is in good overall condition. The enamel dial is in good condition with just a few small hairline cracks between 7 and 8. There is little discolouration and the black printing is still crisp and saturated. It has Arabic numerals, gold-coloured Poire hands and a small seconds sunken sub-dial at 6.
Many of the Labrador movements were of exceptionally high quality and typically chronometers with double-screwed chatons (solid gold) and swan neck regulators with a micrometric screw. (See them in the pictures.) Also note Labrador engraved on the movement. The watch for sale here has these features. A very similar design to the Labrador chronometer pictured on page 38, Omega A Journey Through Time.
The watch would have been made for the local market, as the case was made in Switzerland. Due to restrictions on the movement of precious metals, the movement would have been exported from Switzerland and fitted to a locally made case had it been for export. The case is in good general condition with a few visible dings and some rubbing to the gold plate.
To open the front, depress the winder and ease it open with a fingernail. To adjust the time, slide out the release located just past 4 and turn the winder.
Runs well.
A superb piece of high-precision early Omega heritage.
