This is an interesting piece that encapsulates the very best of the early years of the Brandt Brothers watchmaking before Labrador and its sister companies were rationalized into the newly formed Omega.
The Brandt brothers manufactured movements and watches under several different brand names before they rationalized to the single trading name of Omega. In the very late 19th to very early 20th century, when this piece was made, the Labrador brand specialized in superior, more expensive movements and watches compared to its sister Brandt companies.
This pocket watch is in very good overall condition. The enamel dial is in good condition and has no hairline cracks. The black printing is still dark and saturated. It has Roman numerals, gold-colored Poire hands and a small seconds sunken sub-dial at 6.
Many of the Labrador movements were of exceptionally high quality and typically chronometers with double-screwed chatons (solid gold) and swan neck regulators with a micrometric screw. Note Labrador engraved on the movement. The watch for sale here has these features. A very similar design to the Labrador chronometer pictured on page 38, Omega A Journey Through Time. The watch runs well and keeps excellent time.
The Swiss-made case is in good overall condition with only a few light dents and scratches. There is no rub-through of the gold plate. Being a hunter, the whole of the watch is protected by metal. The front is enraved with what seems to be initials. To reveal the dial in order to tell the time depress the crown (winder). To adjust the hands locate the lever on the edge of the case between 4 and 5. Lightley pull the lever and the hands will be released. Once adjusted slide the lever back in. The case back snaps open. It is stamped Swiss Made on the inside. Next is the gold plated dust cover. This too snaps open and reveals the Labrador movement.
A superb piece of high-precision early Omega heritage.
