This is a truely wonderful example of the higher range Constellation models. A super-heavy solid 18k gold case and case-back with an 18k gold dial.
 
The Constellation range was introduced in the 1950s where every watch was an independantly certified chronometer. At the time it was unique and a testement to the Omega design engineers.
 
The watch for sale here is in top condition. There are no dinks or scratches just micro-scratches from handling. Not only has its previous owner taken great care of the watch but the signs are that it has hardly been worn. The tell-tale sign is the observatory medallion on the case-back. This is raised and over time gets worn down through contact with the wrist. There are no signs of wear on this fine example.
 
When this watch was manufactured Omega exported their watch movements and would commission local companies to make the cases. This watch was exported to the UK where the case was created by the top quality case maker Dennison. It's fully marked as such and has the appropriate gold hallmarks.
 
The dial is solid 18k gold and whilst shiny it has a very fine vertical brushed finish. In perfect condition apart from one slight blemish between 4 and 5. The solid gold hour batons are riveted in place and have chamfered tops with black onyx inserts. Matching gold hands with black inserts. Sweep seconds hand. Also applied to the dial in solid gold are the Omega logo, the word Omega and a star. The words Automatic, Constellation, Chronometer, Officially Certified and Swiss Made are printed in black. Quick-set date at 3. This changes automatically when the watch is worn but can be adjusted manually by pulling out the crown one step. Adjust the time and after the date changes at 24 hours wind the time back to 23.45 and back to 12 and it will advance one day. The crown is generic. The crystal is the Omega original with its magnifying lens over the date and Omega logo etched in the centre. 
 
Inside is the superb Omega calibre 561. Currently away having a full clean and service and a genuine Omega replacement Constellation crown.
