The Seamaster, introduced in 1948, was a real "workhorse" range produced by Omega reflecting the success they had in designing robust military watches earlier in the 1940s. Medium in size, beefy lugs, solid case and back, shock resistant, anti magnetic and waterproof (at the time but not now).
This Seamaster has been "lived in" but is still in very good overall condition. The dial has aged and I suspect it was gold coloured and now going lighter in places. Not for someone who wants showroom appearance but certainly an excellent watch for everyday wearing. Gold coloured applied hour batons with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12. Matching gold coloured hands and sweep seconds hand. Fully signed. Date at the rarer 6 position. The crystal is in generally good condition. The crown is signed Omega and is the appropriate crown for a Seamaster but is a replacement.
The great thing about Omega gold capped cases it the thickness of gold they use. Despite being over 60 years old the gold has not worn through at any point. It has minor scratches, a few dints and a scratch on the bottom left lug. The case back is stainless steel and is marked Seamaster and waterproof (it isn't now!)
Inside, the case back is fully marked and the watch is powered by the Omega calibre 355. It runs well and keeps good time but don't expect quartz watch accuracy. The 355 was the automatic version (bumper) which gets its power charge from the movement of the wrist when the watch is worn.
Comes with a little used non-omega black leather strap and silver buckle.
